Neighborhood Purpose Grant

About Neighborhood Purpose Grants

Los Angeles Neighborhood Councils receive an annual budget from the city, funded by taxpayer dollars. A large portion of the budget is allocated for Neighborhood Purpose Grants. The council can award grants to local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and public schools with project proposals that would benefit the Elysian Valley community. In the 2026 term, EVRNC currently has $13,035 available for grants. Application info below!

Projects and activities must contribute to the community in some way and will be voted on first by the Grants Committee, then the entire board. Grant recipients vary widely and can include, but are not limited to:

 The Arts  Beautification  Events  Education  Community Improvements  Health and Wellness  Culture  Environmental Support

How to Apply for a Neighborhood Purpose Grant:

Steps to Apply:

  • First, read the NPG Applicant Information Packet to see if you qualify. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) non-profits as well as public schools. (Please note that grants cannot be issued to religious organizations or to private schools.)

  • If you meet the requirements, the next step is to complete the Fillable NPG Application to apply for the Neighborhood Purpose Grant. Follow the guidelines outlined in the Application Process.

  • Submit your completed application and all required documents by email to the Grants Committee Chair, Lauren Barturen. Please note that applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If your application is for an event, it is recommended to submit an application at least three months in advance to ensure there is enough time.

  • Once we receive your completed application, we will reach out via email and invite you to attend the next Grants Committee meeting. Although not required, it is helpful for you to attend in order to present on your application and answer any questions. At this meeting, the application will be reviewed by the Committee and scored on the EVRNC Grants Committee NPG Assessment Rubric. The Committee will then vote whether to recommend to the General Board.

  • If recommended, the application will be voted on at the next calendared General Board Meeting. It is not required for you to attend, but highly encouraged - you will have an opportunity to present and share details of your project to the board and the public.

  • If approved, Grant Awardees are responsible for filling out an NPG Completion Report Form to show the Board and community how the grant was used and to provide photos, if possible.

We look forward to hearing about your organization and projects!
