Neighborhood Council Elections 2025

Call for Candidates

Dear Neighbors,

Make a difference in your community by becoming a Neighborhood Council Board member.  Applications are being accepted NOW! Apply online or in-person at the Elysian Valley Recreation Center for the upcoming 2025 Neighborhood Council elections.


What is the Neighborhood Council?

The Neighborhood Council serves as the voice of our community, working directly with city officials to:
  • Advocate for local improvements
  • Influence city planning decisions
  • Allocate community improvement funds
  • Address neighborhood concerns and issues


Why Should You Run?

As a Council member, you will:
  • Shape the future of our neighborhood
  • Work directly with city departments
  • Help allocate community resources
  • Build stronger connections with neighbors
  • Gain valuable leadership experience

Important Information

  • Candidate Filing starts on December 27, 2024 and runs through February 10, 2025
  • The Elysian Valley Riverside Neighborhood Council is made up of of 15 seats total: 14 At-Large seats, including one Youth seat, and one Community Interest seat.
  • Membership on the Neighborhood Council is open to all Elysian Valley Stakeholders—meaning those who live, work, or own property or a business within our boundaries, as well as to “community interest stakeholders,” such as church members, local students (or parents of students), or members of local nonprofit organizations. The minimum age to run for most NC seats is 18, except for Youth seat candidates, who may be between the ages of 14-17.
  • Candidates and voters need not be US citizens or legal residents to qualify. Participation is also open to the formerly incarcerated.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the candidate application form available at the Elysian Valley Recreation Center or online at: https://clerk.lacity.gov/clerk-services/elections/neighborhood-council-elections/how-become-nc-candidate
  2. Provide proof of eligibility (ID and documentation showing your connection to the neighborhood).
  3. Submit a brief statement about why you want to serve on the Council.
  4. Include a recent photograph (optional).

Upcoming webinar hosted by California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP). The webinar will take place will on Wednesday, October 23, from 2:00pm-3:00pm, will focus on grant opportunities for homeowners to retrofit their homes against earthquake damage, and is designed specifically for local and regional leaders.
 
The webinar will cover information about CRMP and its grant programs with a focus on the Earthquake Soft-Story (ESS) program, which offers up to $13,000 for eligible homeowners and opened for registration on October 15, 2024. Community Updates

Sept. 30, 2024 & Oct. 9, 2024 Meetings 

Thank you to all the neighbors who took the time to attend and help us bring clarification to the issues that our community feels needs to have more regulation on the weekends, in particular the Frogtown Flea Crawl. In addition, necessary improvements to make the Elysian Valley Community more accessible to both youth and adults during the weekends, with focus to the seniors and youth age 14 to 25.

Apply for Neighborhood Purpose Grants!

2024-2025 Neighborhood Purposes Grants (NPGs) provide NCs opportunities to develop partnerships with local 501(c)(3) nonprofits and public schools to build community and enhance neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles. Projects and activities supported by NPGs vary widely and can include, but are not limited to:    The Arts    Beautification    Community Support    Education    Community Improvements
 NPG-funded projects and activities must be for a public benefit and purpose, open, accessible, and free of charge to stakeholders.

Flea Crawl Woes?

We've hosted a Special Meeting on September 30, 2024 to allow many residents to share issues about problems encountered with the weekend Frogtown Flea Market, including parking issues and safety concerns. A referral letter has been sent to Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez Regina Mallare, Field Deputy and City of Los Angeles Fire Dept. to highlight the impacts to Elysian Valley.
